McMahon Dental began more than 40 years ago with a vision of dentistry that felt different — one rooted in integrity, compassion, and genuine human connection.
Dr. John McMahon grew up watching his father care for generations of patients who came not just for their teeth, but for the kindness and honesty they found here. That legacy continues today as Dr. John leads the practice into a new era of innovation, combining advanced technology with the same personal touch his father built the practice on.
In 2025, the McMahon story came full circle with the addition of Dr. Will, a Grand Rapids native who once interned at the practice and is now helping carry its mission forward. Together, they represent the perfect blend of family tradition and forward-thinking innovation — modern dentistry with heart.
Meet Our Doctors
Dr. John McMahon, DDS
Dr. John McMahon is the owner of McMahon Dental, where he blends advanced technology with a warm, personalized approach to care. As a fourth-generation dentist, he’s proud to carry on his family’s legacy—having worked alongside his father until his retirement in 2022—while continuing to elevate the practice with modern, comprehensive dentistry.
Before dental school, Dr. John earned his undergraduate degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan. That foundation shapes his approach to emotional dentistry—understanding patient fears, easing anxiety, and creating a space where people feel heard, understood, and genuinely cared for.
He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2011, where he developed his passion for smile design, full-mouth transformations, and exceptional family dentistry. Dr. John loves caring for patients of all ages and building long-term relationships with families as they grow through every stage of life.
Dr. John is also deeply involved in the West Michigan dental community. He serves on the West Michigan Dental Foundation’s Board, is an active member of the American Dental Association and Michigan Dental Association, and is recognized each year by his peers as a Grand Rapids Top Dentist.
In 2025, McMahon Dental proudly welcomed Dr. Will Griffith as the practice’s associate dentist, expanding the team and strengthening the high-touch, high-tech care the practice is known for.
Originally from Chicago, Dr. McMahon is a lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Outside the office, he spends most of his time with his wife and their three kids (with a fourth on the way!), playing soccer, or cheering on Michigan football.
Dr. William “Will” Griffith
Dr. Will Griffith is a Grand Rapids native who is proud to be back home serving the community he grew up in. After graduating from Forest Hills Northern, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Michigan State University—and even though he still bleeds green and white, he crossed rival lines to attend the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he earned his DDS in 2025 and graduated in the top 10 of his class.
Throughout dental school, Dr. Will immersed himself in leadership and organized dentistry. He served as Social Chair for the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity (Alpha Chapter) and spent two years as Treasurer for the American Student Dental Association’s District 6, helping bring students, professionals, and industry partners together through conferences and continuing education. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and Delta Sigma Delta’s Detroit Chapter.
Dr. Will is passionate about building trust with patients, creating a comfortable environment, and delivering modern, comprehensive care. He was first connected with McMahon Dental more than a decade ago, and returning as an associate dentist is a full-circle moment.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Will loves all things sports, fitness, movies, and podcasts. He’s especially into 70s and 90s cinema, strength and endurance training, and—despite his years in Ann Arbor—he still proudly cheers for the Spartans (much to Dr. John’s disappointment).
